News of Fresh Express’ demise comes as a great (and depressing) shock to me. Before my accident I relied heavily on their offerings to provide my lunchtime fare. From their teriyaki chicken salads to vegetarian wraps and roast beef sandwiches, I found the idea that fresh fast food could be obtained relatively cheaply at every supermarket to be refreshing, exciting and innovative for the local market. I often saw other working professionals picking up their fare, and over the months their product line began to expand to include microwaveable soups and casseroles. Was this the problem? Overzealous expansion? Official word is that the line simply failed to meet earning expectations (because of the rapid line expansion?) Whatever the reason… R.I.P Fresh Express, you -will- be missed 😥

Ready to eat food retailer Fresh Express has shut down operations a little more than a year after it started.
.
Shoppers at numerous supermarkets around the country saw Fresh Express workers removing the shelves and coolers containing food from shelves.
.
Fresh Express, a subsidiary of the Bermudez Biscuit Company, is a line of ready to eat foods, including sandwiches, salads, fruits, pasta dishes and other meals, which were available at supermarkets, pharmacies and convenience shops nationwide.
.
The concept of the line was “Gourmet Food at your Fingertips”.
.
Karen de Montbrun, regional logistics and general manager at the Bermudez Biscuit Company, confirmed yesterday that operations at Fresh Express were shut down on Wednesday.
.
She said that company chief executive officer Nobel Philip would be commenting on the reasons behind the closure.
.
Philip was said to be out of the country yesterday.
.
Some storeowners said that the move came as a surprise to them.
.
They pointed out that within the last six months, Fresh Express had almost doubled its menu to include products like microwaveable lasagne.
