Hi 'Studz', Thanks for dropping me a line. I appreciate your concerns but as I stated in the post the books have been out of print since the eighties. They have been stolen out of the libraries as well. Now and then I hear rumours of someone with a copy but they will never part with it/lend it/share it because again, it is no longer available and has not been for decades. Its out-of-print status has nothing to do with lack of demand or encouragement, rather it is an inheritance/royalty dispute that at this point looks like it will never be resolved (also mentioned in the post). At this point the value and message of the product has been lost to several generations because only a few have copies. I see no point in that. If it was in circulation and available for purchase I would not only have a copy I would be the first to promote it here!

[...] Who is Sylvia Hunt, you ask? She was Trinidad’s Julia Child. She put our cuisine on the map and for many, remains the gold standard of Trinidadian cooking. Sylvia Hunt wrote several cookbooks, hosted a television cooking show, and back in the day, owned her own restaurant. She passed away in the Eighties, I believe. And regrettably, dissent and conflict in her family has prevented her cookbooks from being reprinted and cherished as I am sure she herself would have wanted. You can find loving homages on Can Cook Must Cook and Trini Gourmet. [...]

I have all of Sylvia Hunt's cookbooks, as well as a large selection of other Trinidadian recipe books (Men Who Cook; all 3 of Wendy Rahamut's books; the Living Waters cookbooks, and several specialty Indian ones etc.)

I think that you're encouraging a good concept, but I'd prefer that you urged people to go out and support Sylvia Hunt by purchasing the books and using them, rather than violating the copyright and distributing the content free.

No demand, no encouragement for books -- they go out of print. They disappear. And then, what? Why bother to print more? Why collect and save the recipes or the heritage? Much cheaper and easier to simply buy the imported stuff... Do the right thing. Support your culture. Go find the books, don't just scan and upload.

Hello TriniGourmet,

I happen to have Menus for Festivals and Daily Use (minus pg 86 which seems to have disappeared) and Sylvia Hunts Sweets. Would be willing to do a photocopy swap if you have Sylvia Hunt's Cooking.
