The Hardest Year




The title of this post is The Hardest Year, but I should probably also call it the The Hardest Post, as it is one I have been drafting and re-drafting over the past 5 months.

On September 21st, 2015 I lost my father to cancer. It brought to an end a journey that has been one of the hardest and loneliest experiences I’ve had to date. I’m really sorry that my posts were infrequent over much of last year. I had great plans mapped out for 2015 however they had to be thrown aside once i had to become a full-time caregiver (along with my mother). Emotionally and physically I had very little leftover for anything else. His diagnosis was unexpected and I’m still recovering and deeply shaken by it all. Oddly enough, the post-death period is almost as hectic which doesn’t really help with the grieving process nor did the additional loss of my aunt at the end of December.

I have slowly started dipping my toes back into the social media waters, most actively on my personal and TriniGourmet Instagram accounts . I am still struggling to revisit the material I prepared for you all a year ago as it is now laden with a lot of feelings that I’m still working through.  The content is still valuable however, like many other things it may have to wait.

In December, four of my recipes were featured in the Holiday Issue of Barbados’ Cooking Sense magazine. That relationship continues into this year with an announcement that appeared online last Friday and which I will post next.

It marks an exciting new chapter for me and this site both personally and professionally, stay tuned!
