Blogging By Mail (Sweets from Trinidad) – Part 1

23 December 2006 979 views 2 Comments

OOOO! My Blogging By Mail assignee received her package today :) I was worried that she would not get it before Xmas day so that’s a big smile on my face :D Typical! Even Trini packages have to wait til the last possible moment to arrive :D :D :D

I sent her Khurma

a Rum n Raisin chocolate bar (pictured above)

a Coco Crisp chocolate bar

coconut sugar cakes

a Chocolate Digestive

and a CD mix of traditional parang, parang soca, reggae hanukkah music and klezmer takes on traditional xmas carols :D

I’m so glad that she liked them!! :D You can read her write-up here and she did that cool thing with the Flickr photo where she made notes on each item. How cool is that ? :D I love sharing my country’s offerings (as you can probably tell) and it’s so funny seeing my items in an unknown home in an unknown part of the world (to me) :D

I love making foodie blogger friends :D

Hmmm…. I’m still waiting on -my- Blogging by Mail package tho :*( Oh well… the update page says the package has shipped :D

Oh! BTW.. I’m working on a program to share and thank everyone who takes the time to comment/subscribe/join my MyBlogLog community :D More on that in ‘07!

Also! Next week my goal is to highlight cocktails, appetizers, and snacks that are perfect for the best New Year’s Eve party! (or as we call it in Trinidad, Old Year’s Night!) :D Be on the lookout!

I really did love it. The Khurma is almost gone; I’ve tried to pace myself. I tried a little of the rum & raisin bar and it’s wonderful — very rum-my. I haven’t decided what I’ll be having for dessert tonight. I think it may be the digestive. I really am a fan of those. I may bake something tonight and I’ll be listening to the CD, that’s for sure. I can’t wait to listen to it. Reggae Hanukkah!

I did the same with my BBM package. I picked everything I could that was not just American (like cranberry candy) but Pennsylvanian (Hershey’s candy bars and Tastycakes).

Here’s hoping your package arrives soon…

Whatever happened to halay? Not sure if I am spelling it correctly. That chewy pink “sweety” wrapped in parchment paper that we used to buy in the tuck shop at school, or the corner parlour. Does no one know how to make it anymore? Such a shame when things like this and guava lollipops become obsolete. I would love a recipe for halay but I have searched everywhere for one with no luck.
