Five (Foodie) Things Most People Don’t Know About Me

Well lookie there, fresh off my 6 Weird Food Facts About Me, I’ve been tagged yet again! This time by The Budding Cook! :D The theme? Five Things Most People Don’t Know About Me

Well I think that (again) I will tackle this one from a food-related angle :)

1. I keep kosher – well to the best of my abilities that is… mainly I don’t eat shellfish, pork, shark, crab, and I don’t mix meat and milk. That’s why you won’t find recipes that do any of the prior on this site :)
2. I’m a cheap date – I always make sure to order something that costs less than my date. Never understood women who go for the priciest items as some kind of ‘test’ … couldn’t be that way with someone else’s money!
3. I loathe pecans – everything about them; their smell, their taste, their appearance
4. Serve me Ribena (blackcurrant only plz) and I will love you for life (careful what you do with this power) – ditto for SnoCones (Trini-Style) :D

Trinidad Snocone

A guava flavoured Trini Sno-cone is love :D

5. Cornmeal porridge is my personal ultimate comfort food. When I’m sick or down that’s what I turn to. Mom made it for me often growing up, even up until recently. Apparently it’s a Jamaican thing ;)

This time I will tag the last 5 visitors to TriniGourmet who are also members of my MyBlogLog community :)

Rachel of Rachel’s Bite
Cincisquirtle of Earlworld
Skinny of Skinny Celebrities
GregLaden of GregLaden.com
Veronique of Little Elephants

Feel free to adapt the content of the meme to the nature of your blog :D

In other news I’m a little bit under the weather at the moment so if my posting seems a little slower this week that’s why. I already have my posts outlined and all (i actually have a monthly daily posting plan cos I’m Type A like that!!!) but focusing and writing are not my strong points at the moment :( I’ll do my best tho :)

Nikki Even though I wasn’t tagged..you know i am gonna have to do this one someday right? :)
Also hope you feel better soon! :(

About the cheap datething…I dunno…when i go out with friends I order what I like and if it is expensive I pay for it. If a guy takes me out and I order what I like and it’s expensive then he pays…I don’t really think about cost that much at all. In fact I have found that guys do want to pay whatever when they take you out…maybe I am wrong?
I don’t do the TEST thing but i would be wary if a guy balks at treating me on a date (maybe trini guys are like this?)..That is always a BAD sign lol

i think one should handle another’s money with even more concern and frugality than one handles one’s own… not knowing another person’s financial situation and taking into account they are voluntarily choosing to take me out i can’t bring myself to exploit that. i figure that their choice reflects the price range they feel comfortable within. by ordering less than (or equal to) that i don’t feel like i am taking advantage of their generosity.

I have always had guys tell me that that they have appreciated my choices and consideration of their wallet. I think there is a tension that builds up in them as they wait to see what ‘she’ will order. Of course I don’t think that they will storm out if i ordered something more expensive but it forms part of an impression – ‘diva’ ‘high maintenance’ and such… i’m neither of those things in reality. I remember a guy being shocked when i unlocked his side of the car once on a date after he had opened my door. he said it was the first time a girl had done that. that normally they just sit in their seat and look ahead ‘like princesses’ as he fumbles to unlock his side… he decided from that that i was a keeper :D he was a sweetie… I dunno… i think it’s the little things. To me the date is a treat enough. I don’t need to molest their bank account to feel ‘treated’. I am more interested in good convo and laughs anyway…

you got me wondering now what emily post’s take would be (i’m an emily post addict i confess) can’t find my copy at the mo tho :)

      oh ok found it

“the woman of character knows that it is the man himself, and not his manner of entertaining, that matters. In fact the way she responds is a measure of the quality of girl she is, and of her liking for you. In a restaurant she should not order the most expensive item on the menu, unless the man indicates [that is] what he expects her to order. A young woman of sensibility will not enjoy one bite of the tastiest steak under these circumstances.”

I think this though…Usually the guys suggest the place they want to take me..and I agree.
The places they take me are fairly high priced anyway and every entree is around the same price so I never think about costy. Maybe i should in the future.
I think about cost a little when i go out with girl friends..but ususally if i want to go oout to eat its to treat myself…
I dunno…I think a little bit differently about that issue. I wouldn’t order a 100 dollar meal or something (unless that was the type of place they took me to)but I don’t know that I need to go out with a guy who is looking to see if i order something cheaper…I dunno…I never really think about that stuff too much :( Sorry Nikki :)

      • Marsha says:

Ah Nikki I read your comment about The conversation etc is enough….
For me it is enough and I think for them it is too! which is why I don’t think they care about cost too much. They always suggest places in their budget so I don’t think that either of us ever worries about cost.
That has been my experience anyway.

Hi there, first time to your blog, among other interesting recipes, I just saw the keyword “Ribena” :) I have not had this beverage in a long time, brings back so much childhood memories. I gotta go find some at the Asian groceries tomorrow. By the way, on pecans, how about pralines and pecan cookies ? *grins* thanks for sharing your MeMe’s, cheers !:)

    • Sarina says:

hi and welcome :D oh ribena is love, do find yourself a bottle or carton soon! :D I’ve never had cookies with pecans, pralines from my memory were not so bad though :)
