✨ September has been a month of reflection for m ✨ September has been a month of reflection for me, both in the kitchen and in life. Between the busyness of daily routines and the challenges that come with caregiving, I found myself pausing often, asking what I am grateful for and what lessons I can carry forward.

One thing that stood out was how much joy this community continues to bring me. Every time you try one of my recipes, message me about your results, or share your own cooking stories, it reminds me that food is more than ingredients, it is connection. And even when things do not turn out perfectly, every attempt is a step closer to mastery.

Cooking can feel intimidating, especially when you are short on time or worried about wasting ingredients. I know that fear well. But I also know the joy of finally nailing a dish, of seeing loved ones light up around the table, of discovering a new flavour that becomes a family favourite. Those are the moments I want to help you create more of.

So as I look back at September, I am grateful for every one of you who has chosen to be part of this journey with me. And as we step into October, I cannot wait to share more recipes, tips, and stories that will help you cook with confidence and joy.

💬 Tell me in the comments, what is one dish you are proud of mastering this year, no matter how small or simple it may be? Your answer might inspire someone else who is feeling unsure in the kitchen. And if you are new here, follow along for recipes, tips, and encouragement to help you cook with confidence.

Last week reminded me that beauty is a feeling. It Last week reminded me that beauty is a feeling. It’s not just how a dish looks on the plate, it is the confidence that blooms when you trust yourself in the kitchen, the peace that comes when you find rhythm in the stirring and chopping, the joy of sharing something you created with love.

What works for me is leaning into those small moments, letting my kitchen feel like a place of calm and discovery. Yesterday, I launched the “Republic Day VIP Pass” and the response has filled me with so much gratitude. It will be taken down tomorrow night, so if you have been thinking about it, the invitation is still open. My “End of Summer Kit” is available until the end of the month, and “Flavour Sundays” are still on sale until the end of this week. Links to everything are in my Stories and Link in Bio.

I know the fears that often come with cooking, the worry of wasting ingredients, the pressure to meet expectations, the stress of results that feel inconsistent. But beauty is not perfection. It is the courage to try again, the growth you see over time, and the independence that builds when you realise you can master any dish with patience and guidance.

What is one beautiful feeling that cooking has brought you recently? Share it with me below, and then visit my Stories or Link in Bio to see how you can create more of those moments for yourself.

✨ SO happy to be fully back. At the end of May I ✨ SO happy to be fully back. At the end of May I fell quite ill, and it slowed me down more than I expected. Recovery has been a slow and steady climb, but one thing I held onto was the hope that I would feel strong enough to create again. And here I am.

I’m been rebuilding my balcony garden. And it’s so soothing and fulfilling to harvest ingredients that will go into my dishes right away. Here you can see me rinsing off some kale and Spanish thyme that I used yesterday 🤗

This week I released a new mini-guide “Caribbean Flavours in 5 Minutes: A Mini Spice & Marinade Guide” (link in my stories and bio). It feels so good to share something new with you after being quiet for so long.

And because I like to keep things interesting, I have another little surprise on the way. On Monday I will be announcing a special “End of Summer” Kit, designed especially with those of you in temperate climates in mind. Newsletter friends in The Golden Swizzle community will get early access tomorrow, along with a discount code just for them.

💬 I would love to hear from you. What has been your biggest kitchen win recently? Drop it below so we can celebrate together. And if you want first dibs on new guides, kits, and discounts, tap the link in my bio or head to my stories today.

I know what it’s like to feel stuck in the kitch I know what it’s like to feel stuck in the kitchen, staring at ingredients and wondering how to bring them together without wasting time or flavour. That fear of ruining a dish? I’ve been there.

That’s why, back in 2012, I created Glam By Request — my cookbook featuring over 30 easy Caribbean recipes designed to help you build confidence, explore authentic flavour, and cook with joy. These were the same recipes people around the world were begging me to share, from St. Croix to Stockholm.

In 2015 I took it offline, but now I’m updating it and getting ready to relaunch it. Join the waitlist and you’ll be able to enjoy 20% off on launch day! The response so far has been beautiful, and I want you to be part of it. Simply comment “GLAM20” (no spaces to get the process rolling.

Some days I stare at my pantry, knowing full well Some days I stare at my pantry, knowing full well I don’t have the ONE ingredient I need to recreate a dish. Ever been there? When that craving hits but you’re missing chadon beni or a proper hot pepper, it’s enough to make you slam the pot shut and call it a night.

But you know what pulls me back? That craving for comfort - mom’s oil-down, dad’s pelau, the memory of Sunday lunch with too much scotch bonnet and love to match. When ingredient access is tight, creativity becomes your superpower.

My go-to strategy when I’m in a rut? I pick one dish I love, break it down, simplify, and give myself grace. Some of my best recipes were born when I had “nothing to cook.” It reminds me why I do this. Why I teach. Why I share. Our spices, our stories, our kitchen traditions — they matter. When you cook, you carry your heritage forward. One plate at a time. One memory at a time. Proud of every pepper, every pot, every plate.

Our spices, our stories, our kitchen traditions, they matter. When you cook, you carry your heritage forward. One plate at a time. One memory at a time. Your Culture Lives In Your Cooking, Keep It Alive.

What’s one dish you love but avoid making because of missing ingredients or fear of messing it up? Drop it below.

And if you want hands-on support and recipes that actually work with what you’ve got, join the Glam by Request waitlist. Comment “GLAM20” (no spaces) to snag 20% off on launch day.

What a deliciously full month April was! Of course What a deliciously full month April was! Of course, I’m a little biased as it was also my birthday month! If you caught the sneak peeks in my Stories, you know I celebrated with meals at some of my favourite local spots (seriously, if you’re not watching my IG stories, you’re missing some tasty inspo!). But beyond the food coma, last month was also filled with surprises—from the re-launch of “7 Sweet Trini Treats” (finally!) to hopping back on @Twitch, and the wild virality of that Hyatt Reel. So much for my quiet month of reflection, April had other plans!

I just want to say a big, heartfelt thank you. Your comments, DMs, likes, and love on the newsletter re-launch have filled my kitchen (and heart) with joy. Every time you try a recipe, message me about a win, or conquer a dish you thought you’d never master—you remind me why I started TriniGourmet in the first place. Cooking can be scary. It can feel overwhelming. But you can learn. You can master those traditional flavours. And I’m here every step of the way to make sure you don’t have to do it alone.

And if you’ve been loving “7 Sweet Trini Treats”, just wait till you see what I’ve been cooking up for May! Starting this month I’ll be giving you raw little behind-the-scenes looks of my Twitch stream right here before I go live “over there”. Drop “TGTWITCH” in the comments if you want the direct link and future stream times. And, if you haven’t yet joined my newsletter—it’s the best way to get exclusive tips, secret recipes, behind-the-scenes updates and early access + discounts to upcoming launches (hint: another one’s coming later this month). Just type “TGTIPS” in the comments and I’ll send you all the details.

Let’s make May even more flavourful!

I used to get caught up in trying to make every di I used to get caught up in trying to make every dish perfect— second-guessing myself, even hiding dishes (in my early days) if they didn’t look the way I imagined. But here’s what I’ve learnt (and I really want this to sink in): technique can be taught. Perfection isn’t necessary. Passion is everything.

The direct consequence of not realising this sooner?

You risk missing out on the joy of experimenting. Dinners that feel like exams. And way too much stress that robs you of the real beauty of cooking: expressing love and culture through food.

Truth is? I still catch myself overthinking from time to time.

But I remind myself: “You’re over-complicating it. Here’s what matters…”

Fish especially used to intimidate me—one wrong move and it’s dry, tasteless, or worse… wasted. And we all know ingredients aren’t cheap. But then one small tip, a year into my cooking journey, changed everything and it quickly became one of my favourite things to cook.

Comment “FISHTIP” (no spaces) and I’ll share it with you—plus I’ll tell you how to get my exclusive “Donut of Fire mug” that supports the channel as well!

Let’s keep beauty on the plate and in the process.

Tag a friend who needs this little reminder today!
