Discover Trinidad and Tobago: Trinidad – Eating out

Blondie – Ruby Tuesdays (Trinidad)

The tourist guide “Discover Trinidad and Tobago” has a guide to eating out in the North-West. Because of its geographic focus the only establishments mentioned are those in and around the capital (Port of Spain).
Excerpt:
The north west has everything from fine dining restaurants to fast food outlets; intimate family-run establishments to street vendors serving up tasty local specialities. One popular area for diners is Ariapita Avenue, where fine dining restaurants stand side by side with grill houses and wine bars.
Street vendors rule the Western Main Road, in St James. In the wee hours of the morning, it is common to see locals queung up for jerk chicken, roti, homemade ice cream, doubles, and even Chinese food.
The malls in this area have extensive food courts that cater to a wide variety of tastes.

The Salald Bar and the Thai shrimp are the only things I keep having at Ruby Tuesdays. Here in Tally, they have started using asian inspired dishware. I don’t know why. I also like the Strawberry Tallcake but I don’t have it often. Ruby is not one of my fav restaurants
It seems to be doing pretty well here! I went once and had a burger something or the other.. The meat was kinda dry…
I also want to try Tony Roma’s … someone needs to pay me to eat out and report back lolz!
I haven’t actually enjoyed Ruby Tuesday’s food – the rice and crabcakes I had were not very good or flavourful and the time before I had some shrimp (coconut encrusted) that my family loved, but the combination didn’t sit well with my personal tastes. The desserts and salad bar always look great though. On the other hand, I do like TGIF, particularly in Price Plaza. I’ve been to Tony Roma’s once (treated by friends) and I cannot remember any particular reaction except perhaps to the price
If you’re eating steak or burgers some of these places don’t wow me.
Sigh, I meant to say, if you’re NOT eating steak or burgers…
I think they have the absolute best ribs!!!!!!!! The music videos idea in the bar is really addictive. I went to other bars after seeing this and thought they were boring. The only thing they can do for me is lower the prices.
I went to the restaurant on 29/3/09. I ordered a Half-rack of Ribs with Tenders served with onion rings and fries. We got our order surprisingly fast. I mention this because it was a holiday weekend in my country and the place was basically packed. I ate most of my dinner and asked for a “doggie bag”. Anyway the interesting part is that by 3am on Monday i had stomach cramps…by 7am i had a serious diarrhea…which lasted for the entire day along with vomitting. Went to the hospital for treatment that night. For most of the day today(Tuesday) i was cramping and i started back vomitting and going to the toilet tonight. The point is i am dissatisfied with the quality of food served and as such i would not be recommending that restaurant to anyone unless something is done about the quality. In fact i plan to highlight this problem to the managemant of this franchise and also to our local newspapers.
