Trinidad Guardian: “For The Love Of Trini Food” – a behind the scenes look

Trinidad Guardian:
It was with a great big smile that I saw a feature spread on my work and TriniGourmet in yesterday’s Trinidad Guardian. The interview played out on a tranquil Friday afternoon earlier this month over some delicious shakes at a local Häagen Dazs (after initially meeting at Maraval’s ‘landmark’ KFC, and then a fruitless attempt to head to an overflowing Rituals Café). Journalist...

UpMarket!: A monthly showcase for local artisans

UpMarket!: A monthly showcase for local artisans
Here in Trinidad & Tobago it can be hard to develop a sustainable market for your products if your focus is handmade items or you produce your items on a small-scale. This has been a major hindrance to entrepreneurial development, as well as cultural diversity and development. That’s why when Upmarket came along it immediately filled a void that needed acknowledgement. Held monthly (usually)...

Declare Independence! Support TriniGourmet's London Calling!
Here in Trinidad & Tobago we’ve just finished celebrating our 51st Independence Day. In the build-up to the holiday I began to wonder what Independence truly means to us, and how do we honour and maintain it? Over the past month I have tried to highlight the struggle that many in the region and at home feel in the effort to promote and uphold local culture in the face of corporate, and...

HELP CREATE HAITI UNCOVERED: Preserving Haiti’s Culinary Heritage & Traditions

HELP CREATE HAITI UNCOVERED: Preserving Haiti's Culinary Heritage & Traditions
Crowdfunding is quickly becoming a popular way for entrepreneurs and artists to get their work out to the public without needing corporate sponsorship, investors or other ‘gate keeper’ funding. Instead, by placing their appeals directly to their target market via sites like Kickstarter and IndieGogo they are finding a ready pool of supporters for whom as little as $1 USD are willing to...

Sarina’s Spicy Fried Gluten-Free Chicken! (recipe & video)

Sarina's Spicy Fried Gluten-Free Chicken! (recipe & video)
This delicious spicy fried chicken was created for Episode 10 of “Sweet Han’: Caribbean Cooking with Sarina”. In this episode I shared some tips for perfect frying so do check it out below It’s commonly believed that fried chicken requires a floury batter to be divine, however when the chicken is marinated overnight (as mine was) the flavour can be equally complex. Covered...

Looking for Lentil Soup?

Looking for Lentil Soup?
“Best Ever Lentil Soup” (link to recipe, below) On a semi-regular basis I like to check what keywords are driving people to this site. Without fail “lentil soup” in one form or another is on the list. This surprises me as I often think that I am the only person who loves these humble brown beans (they certainly don’t elicit much response when I mention them to others...

Iced Lemon Ginger Tea (recipe)

Iced Lemon Ginger Tea (recipe)
As promised, here is the recipe for the Iced Ginger Lemon Tea which was the beverage component of my submission to the 40th installment of Happy Sorceress’ Blog Party series. This drink is wonderfully refreshing and has a soft muted tone, thanks to the use of honey. Not only does the honey take the sharpness off the ginger flavour, it also makes this drink especially soothing on the throat....
